Mar 13, 2010 (The Akron Beacon Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Summit County Akron Arrests Ronald E. Powell, 20, of South Hawkins Avenue, was charged with rape, felonious assault, kidnapping to engage in sexual activity and disrupting a public service March 6 in the 1200 block of Everton Drive. Reports said Powell threw a woman to the ground, kicked her repeatedly in the head and face, then sexually assaulted her while choking her with a bandana. Police said Powell continued to punch and kick the woman, then smashed her cellular phone when she attempted to report the rape.

Gino K. Suggs, 18, of Raymond Street, was charged with trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs March 7 following a traffic stop at Russell and La Croix avenues. Reports said officers found Suggs had five grams of marijuana in his vehicle.

Thefts A black 2010 Hyundai Accent was reported stolen at gunpoint March 7 while the driver was stopped at a traffic light on South Main Street at East Buchtel Avenue. Reports said three men and a woman, all in their early 20s, approached the vehicle, one with a gun, and demanded that the person exit the car. Two drove off in the vehicle, which was a rental, and two drove away in another vehicle, which was parked behind Vertigo Night Club, reports said.

A Newton Street man, 24, reported March 7 that while walking in the 200 block of Darrow Road, he was threatened with a machete, thrown to the ground and punched by a man. Reports said the man stole $180 cash from the victim.

Barberton Arrests Joseph M. Firth, 40, of Helen Street, was arrested March 9 on charges of drug possession and aggravated drug trafficking. He is accused of selling OxyContin.

William Rafferty, 22, of Fairview Avenue, was charged March 9 with assault stemming from an argument at the Sun Inn, 451 Fairview Avenue. Rafferty is accused of hitting a 21-year-old man in the face after he said, "Shaq sucks." Darnell L. Bitting, 23, of Akron, was charged March 9 with domestic violence. He is accused of threatening his ex-girlfriend after he stayed at her East Robinson Avenue home and she threw away his crack cocaine.

Burglary A home on East Ford Avenue was broken into and a laptop computer, a paintball gun and paintball equipment were reported stolen March 9.

Bath Township Forgery Police said a man used a fictitious Ohio driver's license to purchase two cashier's checks at FirstMerit Bank in Cleveland on March 3. He attempted to cash the checks at FirstMerit, 30 Springside Drive. Police were contacted and the man left the area before officers arrived. He left behind the checks and a false driver's license.

Thefts A laptop computer was reportedly taken March 6 from a table in the coffee shop at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 4015 Medina Road. The owner said he left the table for a few minutes and returned to find his computer gone.

An employee of Red Lobster, 3901 Medina Road, reported March 4 that someone stole his wallet while he was working. The wallet contained a credit card and $75 cash, along with several store membership cards.

Copley Township Theft The manager of Chipotle, 3890 Medina Road, reported March 4 that on Feb. 28 an employee took two deposit bags from the store but only one bag was deposited at the bank. The unaccounted for bag contained $2,000, according to reports. The employee did not return to work.

Coventry Township Arrest Eric Nolan, 40, of North Pointe Drive, was booked at the Summit County Jail on Feb. 27 on charges of sexual imposition, assault and criminal damaging. He is accused of grabbing a woman between her legs as she passed by him, forcing her to push him to get away. According to reports, after he was escorted out of the Basement Bar on Manchester Road, he grabbed the victim's car door window and broke it.

Burglary A flat-screen TV, a laptop computer and a wide variety of jewelry, valued at more than $5,800, were reported stolen from an Oak Grove Road home March 4.

Thefts A Coventry Township resident told authorities March 5 that someone stole a $500 handgun from a Kingsley Drive residence.

The Crystal Clear Car Wash on Manchester Road was broken into March 2, and a time controller and other items, valued at $596, were reported stolen.

Fairlawn Arrest London D. Vinson, 19, of Akron, was charged March 5 with theft and obstructing official business. Reports said that when an off-duty police officer working security for Dillard's Summit Mall store confronted Vinson in the store, he handed over a bag containing three pairs of jeans, valued at $294, then fled to a waiting car. With police in pursuit, Vinson fled from the car and led police on a foot chase through Fairlawn and Bath Township neighborhoods. Officers reported finding him in a garage in the 100 block of Hickory Road. The driver of the car fled on foot when police stopped the vehicle in the 2900 block of Vesper Drive. She was not found. Police said more than $1,100 worth of merchandise stolen from Victoria's Secret and Express was found in the car.

Green Arrest Joshua Ake, 29, of Rayel Circle Northwest, was jailed in Summit County on March 6 after he was accused of striking his wife in the back of the head several times.

Theft A South Main Street woman told deputies March 2 that someone stole a 40-caliber handgun and a 12-gauge shotgun, valued at $900.

Hudson Arrests Brian P. O'Reilly, 34, of Akron, was charged with theft, burglary and criminal mischief March 1. He is accused of stealing $48.35 from a residence in the 1600 block of Groton Drive.

Brian S. Dunn, 42, of St. James Circle, was charged with domestic violence and endangering children March 4. Police responding to an interrupted 911 call reported finding Dunn in possession of 11 guns.

Norton Arrests Melissa King, 40, of Eastern Road, was arrested March 10 on a felony warrant from Medina.

Police investigating a report of two teenagers not enrolled in school arrested two juveniles and an adult who were wanted on felony warrants. Amy R. White, 36, of Johnson Road, a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy all face charges. The juveniles are additionally charged with obstructing official business for giving false information to police.

Breaking and entering A mobile home in Sunset Mobile Village, 1275 Norton Avenue, was broken into between March 1 and 7. Copper wiring and a hot water heater were reported taken.

Vandalism Someone pushed a shopping cart into the glass door, breaking it, at Freedom Hair, 3200 Greenwich Road, on March 7.

Springfield Township Arrests Tonya Congrove, 42, of Abington Road, was jailed in Summit County on Feb. 28 on a domestic violence charge. She is accused of striking a man in the face, breaking his glasses and cutting his nose during a fight.

Terry Carpenter, 46, of Greenleaf Road, was booked on a domestic violence charge Feb. 26, accused of pointing a gun at his ex-wife and saying, "You're next to go." Burglary A Coach Lane resident said Feb. 23 that someone broke into his trailer and took a PlayStation 3, a DVD player and a paintball gun, valued at $525.

Identification fraud A Mayfair Road woman told police March 2 that her son, 42, opened a T-Mobile cell phone account using her identity and then ran up $400 in unpaid bills on the account.

Tallmadge Arrests Jarritt R. Ford, 25, of Akron, was charged with felonious assault and tampering with evidence March 5 in the 200 block of North Thomas Road. Reports said shots were fired at an apartment complex.

Medina County Medina Arrest Albert S. Stiver, 36, of Spruce Street, was charged March 7 with felony domestic violence.

Wadsworth Arrest Adam J. Wilhite, 18, of High Street, was charged March 1 with drug abuse. During a traffic stop, police reported finding an open container of beer inside the vehicle Wilhite was driving. While talking to police, the officer said a baggie of marijuana fell from Wilhite's pant leg.

Portage County Kent Arrest Denise G. Jacobs-Woolf, 47, of East Oak Street, was charged with domestic violence March 2, accused of repeatedly hitting her husband.

Ravenna Arrest Keith A. Holcomb II, 20, of Summit Road, was charged with assault March 3.

Stark County Hartville Arrest Timothy Miller, 31, of Kent Avenue, was booked into the Stark County Jail on March 3 on a domestic violence charge, accused of throwing a spare tire that struck his wife.

Jackson Township Arrests Theodis Montgomery, 24, of Rowland Avenue Northeast, Canton, was jailed Feb. 28 on a warrant charging domestic violence, kidnapping, robbery and violating a protection order. He was arrested by Canton police and turned over to Jackson authorities.

Donald Dempsey, 24, of Wales Avenue Northwest, was booked on charges of domestic violence and disrupting public services Feb. 28. He is accused of pulling his wife off a bed, threatening to punch her and cutting the phone cord to prevent her from calling for help.

Samone Felding, 48, of Garfield Street, Akron, was arrested by Akron police on a warrant accusing him of passing bad checks. He was taken to the Stark County Jail by Jackson police.

Shawn Sanders, 19, of Independence Circle Northwest, was booked on a domestic violence warrant Feb. 28. He is accused of throwing his girlfriend to the ground. He was arrested by Waynesburg police and booked by Jackson police.

Michael Fankhauser,53, of Howard Drive, Tallmadge, was arrested by Akron police on a Jackson warrant charging him with domestic violence.

Jamie Starcher, 32, of Hills and Dales Road Northwest, was jailed Feb. 26, accused of telling his wife he was going to knock her head off.

Burglary A Carie Hill Circle Northwest resident said March 2 that someone entered her attached garage and took a laptop computer and digital camera, valued at $1,100.

Lake Township Arrest Shawna Kirby, 24, of Geib Avenue Northeast, was booked at Stark County Jail on Feb. 27 on a felony domestic violence warrant after being taken into custody in Akron.

North Canton Gross sexual imposition Stark County Children Services and North Canton police are investigating a report that a 6-year-old North Canton girl was sexually touched by another person.

Breaking and enterings Cash totaling $837 was reported stolen from the Hair Shoppe on Wise Avenue Northwest during a break-in Feb. 25.

All Ohio Air Conditioning on Whipple Avenue Northwest and two vehicles were broken into Feb. 25, and an undisclosed list of items were reported stolen, police said.

Burglary A Woodside Avenue Northeast resident said Feb. 23 that her home was entered and two diamond wedding bands, a variety of other jewelry and a laptop computer, valued at a total of $33,720, were stolen.

Plain Township Arrest Dorrian Allen, 40, of Tuscarawas Street West, Canton, was jailed March 2 on a robbery warrant and theft charge. He is accused of taking 11 video games, valued at $208, from the Kmart on Harmont Avenue Northeast.

Wayne County Wayne sheriff Burglary Hunting clothes and tools, valued at $4,150, were reported taken March 4 from a garage in the 15400 block of Rittman Road, Chippewa Township.

Theft A purse with credit cards and $50 in cash was reported taken March 7 from a truck in the 100 block of S. Maple St., Congress.

Wooster Arrest Raymond T. McGuire, 18, of Wooster, was arrested March 6 on a charge of felonious assault. He is accused of stabbing his girlfriend's brother in the chin with a fork.

Burglaries An Xbox 360 and games, valued at $930, were reported taken March 8 from a residence in the 600 block of Pittsburgh Avenue.

A laptop computer, a car stereo and other items, valued at $650, were reported taken March 7 from a residence in the 2200 block of Melrose Drive.
