Sean MacNeill is CEO at Openwave Messaging, Inc.

Marlin Equity acquired Openwave Messaging, Inc. and announced that Sean MacNeill will occupy the position of Chief Executive Officer in their new corporate configuration.

Prior to his new position, MacNeill acted as senior vice president in Openwaves' Messaging Business Unit. Operating partner Bart Foster at Marlin Equity Partners called Openwave's messaging systems "market leaders in the telecommunication and cable industry."

In the new configuration, Foster expects the company will become able to remain dedicated to its current customers as well as the development of new solutions and products. Foster is "pleased to have Sean MacNeill lead the team as CEO."

"Starting today," MacNeill said, “[Openwave is] preparing to re-assume its role as a messaging industry innovator." In both standard and integrated messaging markets (i.e. wireless and other, newer technologies), Openwave is excited to continue innovating and providing new products and solutions.

As a veteran with 20 years in the industry, Macneill has held a variety of administrative positions. He also worked in the sales department at a company called Dynavar for seven years. Dynavar provided communications solutions for large companies and service providers. He worked with Vocalscape Communications and Intrinsyc Software, Inc., as well, and received his M.B.A. in Columbia, Canada, from the University of Victoria.

Openwave Messaging is a renowned software developer that deals primarily with cloud and social media. Among their long list of distinguished clientele, you will find the names of eight of the world's biggest broad providers.

Unwired Planet, the section of Openwave in which MacNeill worked before the merger with Marlin Equity partners, invented many of the seminal technologies that make the mobile Internet possible as we know it today.

Unwired Planet has claimed for itself many "firsts" in the past decade and a half, including first mobile photo-messaging software and mobile Internet browsing.
