Christian Jensen is Sinch’s chief evangelist. Sinch is a cloud-based, mobile communications platform that makes it easy to add IM, SMS, verification, video, and voice to apps.
We recently spoke with Jensen, who will be a speaker at ITEXPO next month, to get a better idea of how Sinch is using important architectures and technologies like AI, analytics, cloud, and UC, both inside its organization and to reach and serve customers. Here’s what he had to say.
How have technology changes in the past 12 months helped businesses grow?
In general, we’re seeing anonymous calling become a widely accepted business practice to protect user privacy. Verification has been popular for some time, but phone numbers continue to be the best method of communication with a customer base, so verification helps companies to ensure that they have the correct number for their user.
What elements of unified communications are most useful for your company?
Our company strives to be the go-to platform for all real-time communications, with the goal of unifying communications for all of our customers. Bringing communications in-app is the most effective we’ve been able to streamline communications for our customers.
What does the term collaboration mean to your business?
We practice collaboration across departments, within departments, and with developer and business partners. To us, it means flexibility, innovation, hard work, and finding the best possible solution for all parties.
To what extent are you leveraging APIs to enhance business opportunities?
We are an API company, so leveraging that technology and ensuring others leverage our API is essential to our success.
Are you leveraging big data/analytics to operate more efficiently?
Absolutely. We’re constantly reviewing and analyzing trends in call volumes, verifications, by geography, by number of users, and any and all combinations you can think of. Not only does it help us understand past performance, but it helps us predict future issues so we know where to dedicate our resources.
How can artificial intelligence best be used in business applications?
Search is one natural thing to me, to understand what you mean over what you type. I also see a lot of potential in any fraud scenarios where you can start detecting fraud patterns and maybe even write code ad hoc to battle it.
To what extent are you using cloud services in your daily business processes?
We store everything in the cloud, we use cloud hosting such as AWS, and most services we use are hosted by other companies like slack, intercom, etc.
Christian Jensen, Chief Evangelist at Sinch, brings 20 years of development and technology experience specializing in app development strategy, real-time communications, and the mobile VoIP space. He helps to define and support the Sinch product strategy and roadmap in addition to running a developer support and tutorial program. Christian’s passion lies in showing developers awesome real-time communication enhancements that are fun to code. He began his career as a developer with Netsolutions and later served as CTO of Jato Dynamics. Christian joined the Rebtel team in 2010 and played an integral role in Android, iPhone (News - Alert) and PC development. He was directly involved in developing the WPF client and backend WCF APIs for Rebtel. Christian later cofounded iRezQ, a road safety app with automatic car crash detection, which issues an immediate warning to nearby travellers and emergency rescue centers. In addition to his role at Sinch, Christian serves as an advisor with True Global Ventures, focused on due diligence of technology in the mobile and VoIP space.Edited by Alicia Young
