Torrent users should consider getting themselves a good VPN

By

Do you consider your privacy to be of great importance? Then protecting your IP address with a VPN is a wise move, especially when you are downloading files to your computer, tablet or smartphone. Your computer’s personal IP address is a digital fingerprint that identifies you on the internet and affects what you can do and see online. A VPN connection ensures that your IP address is hidden and your internet traffic is encrypted and redirected via an external server. This ensures that your personal data is protected and you are online anonymously. With a VPN you can download torrents via BitTorrent or uTorrent, among others.

What are torrents?

With torrents, users can exchange data and content online. Do you, as a user, want to download a file via a torrent site, such as uTorrent or BitTorrent? Then the torrent program will ensure that you receive this file from other users. "What is the danger of this?" you may ask yourself. Users can identify you via your IP address and that is, of course, what you want to prevent. We are happy to explain more about the benefits of a VPN connection in this article!

Download torrents with VPN

With a Virtual Private Network (VPN) you are assured of an extra encrypted internet connection. With a VPN you are actually on an external server on the internet and therefore also on the IP address of this external server. That way people can no longer link your internet activities to you!

By downloading torrents via VPN, hackers, but also copyright authorities, can no longer see what you are doing. This, of course, does not mean that you can use your VPN for illegally downloading and uploading music, films, and series ... This is against the law and therefore punishable. What you can do, is download legal content without others being able to identify you.

How can you safely download torrents?

  1. Take a VPN subscription. Make sure that the VPN provider supports the download of torrents, because not every VPN provider offers you this service.
  2. Download the VPN app on a device of your choice. For example, a laptop or computer is required for downloading torrents.
  3. Open the VPN app and choose an external VPN server so that you are at an external IP address. This guarantees your anonymity!
  4. Then go to BitTorrent or uTorrent. You can now safely download torrents, without experiencing problems with the VPN connection. The VPN program runs in the background, so you won't even notice it.

With a VPN connection, you can safely and anonymously download torrents!
