Monitoring the Baby Over Your iPhone or iPad

You already know what you can do with your iPhone (News - Alert) and your iPad. You can stream video, have video conferences, check your e-mail, play music, edit your own video content, play games and Web surf.

But monitor your baby? That's a new one.

A company called BabyPing will shortly debut a new high security Wi-Fi baby monitoring system that will allow parents to hear and see their baby on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, according to GizMag. The BabyPing system features can alerts parent via their iOS gadgets if the baby cries, and uses a proprietary technology called Constant-Connect to notify the listener if the Wi-Fi connection drops out or if their iOS device is out of range, reports Ubergizmo.

The free app will use a base unit that goes into the child's room in a similar manner to traditional baby monitors. But instead of toting around a bulky, poorly designed radio device, as with regular baby monitors, the “other end” will be an app on your portable iOS devices.

In addition to audio, (there are audio and video baby monitors on the market, but they tend to be pricey), the app will offer parents the ability to watch their baby in full-color, 640 x 480 video over WiFi (News - Alert), as well. The base monitor will feature Smart Filter technology added to reduce background noise and static.

Though the product and the app that accompany it are not slated to be released until February 2012, you can sign up on the company's website to be notified when it comes available.
