Today has been a down and out day in the realm of social media.
Earlier this morning, around 6:00 a.m., reports began trickling in that Facebook was down. Now, I am not sure who was trying to log into Facebook at that unmentionable hour – but I certainly appreciated the tip.
I went to verify the information first, as any good reporter does, and discovered that indeed – the server was not connecting.
Wanting to see what the general public thought about this greatest of inconveniences, I turned to the best social barometer I could think of: Twitter.
As I had anticipated, there were quite a few outcries about Facebook’s outages on Twitter – and the clamor has been kept all day.
As of twenty minutes ago, Facebook is still down for some users. Which is rather abysmal, considering how impactful a company Facebook is. One would think its engineers, developers, and programmers could hold it together a little better?
At least Twitter can’t claim to be more superior -- the added traffic has shown what the website is made of – it kept freezing up on me when I was trying to get quotes for this article.
I did manage to get one reviewer’s optimistic feedback:
CadeRageous: “Facebook is suffering from downtime currently. Productivity in the western world goes up by 25 percent.”
Hmm…
