Ta-Ta, Friendster: User Data to be Terminated May 31

By

Friendster is trying not to completely backstab any of its users that may have some photos kicking around on the pre-Facebook social networking site, which has put out a warning to its members that all photo accounts will be deleted in preparation for the launch of a revived site.

Don’t worry, though: Friendster has your back – sort of. It’s encouraging all users to use the Friendster Exporter app to both download or export their profile information, friends lists, photos, messages, testimonials, comments, shoutouts and groups to Flickr or Multiply.

However, this does pose a problem to many users whom have accounts that haven’t been accessed for years due to the onslaught of more advanced and user-friendly social networking sites.

Those users still under the same e-mail address used upon signing up for the site can log in and confirm their identity to gain access to the slew of old photos on deck for termination. However, those who can’t remember their e-mail login are out of luck and will just have to say ta-ta to their old (and possibly incriminating) posts and photos.

According to TechCrunch, Friendster – now owned by Malaysian company MOL Global -- has plans to focus its new site on Asian users and reinvent itself to be along the lines of an entertainment-based site.

“Our improved site is designed to create new profiles that allow you to connect differently with people and do things differently than other networking sites,” said Friendster officials in an announcement. “Basically, the new site will complement your existing online presence in other social networking sites.”

According to CNN.com, though Friendster has been vague about its new look and identity, the site appears to be transforming itself into a relaxed gaming destination.
