Sprint Readies to Sell Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi

By

Tablet fans rejoice. Sprint has confirmed that it will be offering the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi Android 3.0 tablet on Sunday, May 8th.

The device includes a 10.1-inch widescreen HD display and a 1GHz dual-core processor. Its Android 3.0 platform is designed specifically for tablets, “showcasing the latest innovations in widgets, multi-tasking, Web browsing, notifications and customization,” according to Sprint’s website.

What’s more, the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi grants access to more than 150,000 apps and games through the Android Market. Users can take pictures with two cameras, a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera with flash that can capture HD video and a front-facing 2-megapixel camera designed specifically for Google Talk with video chat.

A couple of months ago, a leaked advertisement revealed that Motorola planned on asking consumers to shell out a whopping $800 for its upcoming Android Honeycomb-powered tablet. The good news is Sprint’s Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi device is priced at $600.

Intriguingly, May 8th also marks the official release of the Nexus S 4G for Google, available from Sprint Wireless. “Nexus S 4G takes advantage of Sprint’s high-speed 4G data network. It features a 4” Contour Display designed to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand and along the side of your face. It also features a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, front and rear facing cameras, 16GB of internal memory, and NFC (near field communication) hardware that lets you read information from everyday objects that have NFC tags,” reads Google’s Mobile Blog.

Previously, TechZone360.com reported Motorola introduced the Xoom by giving a quick peek to attendees at January’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
