Intel holds that the current and future demand for its products is in China.
“The impact of major global trends, such as the rapidly growing middle class as well as the explosive growth of connected, mobile Internet and cloud computing traffic, is playing out ten-fold in China,” Sean Maloney, executive vice president of Intel Corporation and chairman of Intel China, said in a recent statement.
He notes how China was the biggest market for PCs during 2011. The market jumped 13 percent last year, with some 20 percent of all global PC demand, according to a study from IDC (News - Alert).
IDC also believes demand for servers in China is increasing at least eight times the worldwide average over the past five years. That translates into China being the second-ranked data center market, IDC said. China is also tops in mobile phones with over 1 billion subscribers.
Intel officials in Beijing are pointing to some new technology and collaborations with the company in China. The company announced Intel Small Business Advantage (SBA), which protects PCs. Intel HD Graphics 2500/4000 will also lead to better viewing.
Intel Labs China will be collaborating with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in China, as well as local governments, on research and development.
In a speech during the IDF, Maloney expressed the need to overcome barriers:
“As the world continues to advance, so too must semiconductor technology, and that is never more evident than today with the pending release of Tri-Gate transistors and 22 nm process technology,” Maloney said. “Few individuals and industries will be untouched as powerful microprocessors, Internet-connections, and user experience breakthroughs are applied across the worlds of business, healthcare, education and the society at large.”
In addition, Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager of Intel’s PC Client Group, said that RenRen, a social networking site based in China, will use Intel’s identity protection technology. Feitian Technologies and DynamiCode Company will also use Intel identity protection technology in their products.
Diane Bryant, vice president and general manager of Intel’s Datacenter and Connected Systems Group, said the increased number of users, devices and data is leading to new opportunities for developers, especially with data centers and cloud computing. She highlighted Intel’s Cloud Builders program which gives opportunities for open-standard solutions.
