A recent announcement from investment advisory firm, Acacia Research (News - Alert) Corporation, details the fact that it has acquired a number of patents related to digital imaging and similar technologies. The patents, originally issued to multinational consumer electronics and eyewear company Polaroid, cover technologies often found in digital cameras and camera phones.
Paul Ryan, Acacia CEO and president, had this to say of the patent acquisition: "As Acacia's licensing success grows, an increasing number of technology companies are selecting us as their partner for the licensing of their patented technologies. Acacia is rapidly becoming the leader in technology licensing and we continue to grow our base of future revenues by adding new patent portfolios."
Acacia Research Corporation's (News - Alert) acquisition of patent portfolios is ongoing and as of now the company controls over 200 patent portfolios. The company's subsidiaries partner with inventors and patent owners and license patents to corporations and share the profit gained from licensing with its partners.
In fact, Acacia Research company entered into a license agreement with multinational technology and consulting corporation International Business Machines very recently in regards to patents relating to computer-based visual data evaluation. The license agreement resolves litigation which had been pending in the Middle District of Florida.
Similarly, Acacia's DRAM Memory Technologies LLC and DRAM Technologies LLCD subsidiaries entered into a settlement agreement with Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology this week. The settlement agreement is in regards to double data rate SDRAM devices and resolves litigation pending in the Central District of California and the Eastern District of Texas.
Meanwhile, secure mobile communication technology provider TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. announced on Tuesday that it has entered into a patent licensing alliance with Acacia Research Corporation. The terms of the agreement dictate that a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corporation is now the exclusive licensor of TCS' inter-carrier messaging patent portfolio.
