Nexenta Systems provides enterprise-class OpenStorage solutions for the global market and has just released an innovative new product for virtual desktop infrastructure installation.

Nexenta has partnered with VMware and has released NexentaVSA for View, making the configuration and deployment of virtual desktops much easier. It also lowers storage and management costs that otherwise hinder VDI adoption. Enterprises can save up to 80 percent on management and storage costs which are associated with VDI.

“It used to take two weeks to install and configure a virtual desktop infrastructure,” Bill Roth, vice president of marketing at Nexenta, told TMC (News - Alert) CEO Rich Tehrani, in a recent interview. “We can take that down to hours.”

In addition, NexentaStor, the company’s software-only platform, provides cloud- and virtualization-optimized storage management that is very scalable and high performance. It is based on OpenSolaris/Open Storage ZFS technology.

The company’s products also manage multivendor environments and optimize core storage for content management and compliance, and were among the first open source storage products that were brought to market – in mid-2008, according to the company’s website.

“Our fundamental business is storage,” Roth stated. “Anything that helps to drive more storage is good for us.”

The company has seen thousands of free downloads and thousands of licenses sold. Also, its products have been embedded on solutions from hardware vendors, software developers, systems integrators, original equipment manufacturers and resellers.

In other recent company news, Pogo Storage was named Nexenta’s first Premium Partner. It is the first storage reseller to meet the company’s standards, according to a company press release. These include offering certified solutions engineered by the reseller and delivering comprehensive support for NexentaStor-based products and network storage solutions.
