Me, My Cell and I: Schedule a Dinner Date with Your Smartphone

There are plenty of stereotypes about lonely people. We live with hordes of cats. We go to the movies by ourselves on Saturday afternoons. We eat lots of noodles by ourselves in front of the TV, and our smartphones are our closest friends. Well, just because some of these happen to be true (for me, all of the above except the cats. I have a parrot), doesn’t mean that life has to be difficult for lonely people. And now, thanks to MisoSoupDesign, I can have a FaceTime (News - Alert) chat on my iPhone as I slurp down my delicious noodles (I prefer chicken flavor, but I’m not that picky).

Anyone who has attempted to use a smartphone while eating knows that there are inherent challenges involved. The last thing you want to do is spill food on its screen and your hands are likely occupied with, you know, eating and stuff. Perhaps trickiest of all, though, is finding a convenient place to set your phone when your table is occupied by bowls and utensils and glasses and napkins and whatnot. But necessity, as they say, is the mother of invention, and the clever folks at MisoSoupDesign have designed an elegant solution for this dilemma. Check it out below.

As you can see, the bowl props up your phone while you eat so you can have video chats or browse the Internet in between bites. As a bonus, the bowl acts to amplify your phone’s speaker if you use it when it’s empty, which is a nice treat. So far, the bowls are not yet available, but MisoSoupDesign does have an active Facebook (News - Alert) page and the company is gauging pre-order interest via e-mail.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an e-mail to send, noodles to buy and a bird to feed. Feel free to hit me up on FaceTime if you ever want to share some Ramen.
