The answer is no; the Toshiba (News - Alert) Portege Ultrabook’s screen will not survive if it gets crushed under a two-ton monster truck. However, it can withstand 55 lbs of pressure per square inch.
Toshiba recently launched a field testing campaign for its Portege Ultrabook, LED TVs and Satellite Ultrabooks to test for different durability features. For example, the Portege Ultrabook is spill resistant for up to 50 mL of water. To take that one step further, Toshiba team members wanted to see how it could handle 150,000 mL of water by putting it through a car wash.
The series of videos is an obvious exaggeration of the extremities in which you would place your technology devices, but it is an emphasis on the durability of Toshiba’s devices. (The Portege Ultrabook did not pass the car wash test, by the way.)
Toshiba’s LED TVs can handle 50 percent humidity, so the team wanted to see how one would hold up in a steam room. After spending time watching TV in the room, the TV passed the steam room test.
The Satellite Ultrabook can withstand 500 vibrations per second, so the team stuck it in a paint shaker to see if it could test its limits. The Ultrabook passed the paint shaker test, proving it is a durable laptop.
