Motorola (News - Alert) GT-3 is breaking new ground in Asia with its channel offerings for Asian TV service providers, bringing its record-breaking transcoder to the region for the first time. The company displayed its Motorola GT-3 Multiple Bit Rate (MBR) Transcoder during a three day event from March 21st to the 23rd at CCBN in Beijing, and the reaction was overwhelmingly positive.
Motorola’s innovative service is aimed to make multi-screen video delivery simple and cost-effective for the Asian market, and is the first device with the ability to process three billion pixels of video content per second. This capability makes the GT-3 MBR superior to the traditional server-based MBR transcoders Asian service providers have been used to.
“As we’ve seen in our recent research, consumers are watching more content, in more places around the home and on more devices than ever before,” said Vice President and Regional General Manager for the Asia Pacific region at Motorola Mobility’s Home business, Kevin Keefe. “At the same time, service providers are challenged with delivering high-quality content regardless of the device in a way that doesn’t stretch networks and budgets.”
This problem was the inspiration for Motorola’s transcoder and wealth of channel offerings, said Keefe. “The Motorola GT-3 is designed to address these challenges—offering better quality viewing experiences with the same or less bandwidth.”
Some of the key benefits made available to service providers with Motorola’s solution include unmatched channel density designed for both HDTV and lower resolution formats on smaller devices, savings for both equipment space and power, and increased efficiency for video compression that is especially helpful for bandwidth-constrained networks.
Using the latest silicon technology and Motorola’s customized algorithms for video compression, Motorola’s GT-3 can offer multi-screen HD and SD nearly everywhere from a 1RU device that is both energy-efficient and rich in clarity.
