The city and county of Swansea (CCS), South Wales, England, have chosen to work with Aerohive Networks (HIVE), a leader in controller-less Wi-Fi and cloud managed mobile networking for the enterprise market to make learning easier for its students.
HIVE helps simplify networking by reducing the cost and complexity of enterprise deployments with cloud-based enabled networking solutions. These solutions are based on both next-generation technology, along with intelligence, architecture, state of the art technology, and easy to deploy routers. The company offers solutions, resources, support, and other products such as routers, switches, modems, and applications.
This advanced technology is just the solution that CCS has been looking for to help expand its students’ learning ability by providing a new wireless solution as the platform for mobility across its education and learning services and libraries.
“The mobile device drive has been around teaching and learning in classrooms as opposed to productivity-based activities,” explained Ricky Holdsworth, Senior ICT Program Delivery Manager, City and County of Swansea. “Simplistically, for example, during a history lesson, students would need a larger, desktop device to complete an assignment, whereas for learning fractions in a classroom, you need to use a tablet device with an app that explains how to do it. We needed the infrastructure to support all of that.”
The project will be completed in a number of phases, with the first phase having HIVE implement new learning initiatives for the students by providing support and a secure and resilient network through a centralized management platform.
Holdsworth goes on to explain that it’s more than just connectivity. By being able to control and secure the network it will give the devices the students are using “uninterrupted access” to succeed. All that is needed is a WLAN solution and a platform, which HIVE can provide.
Together, the two organizations plan to work on multiple projects that will benefit both the high power enterprise company as well as the students at CCS.
