Today, June 2, 2014, Apple (News - Alert) revealed its new iOS 8. With the already established iCloud, iOS 8 provides users and app developers with new tools for a more valuable experience.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, said “iOS 8 offers simpler, faster and more intuitive ways to use your device with incredible new features like iCloud Photo Library, a new Messages app, the QuickType keyboard and an entirely new Health app,”
iCloud Photo Library enables users to take photos, edit them, and have them automatically updated onto iCloud. Users can then access these photos and videos anytime on any device.
Group messages have received updates such as the option to include more contacts, or drop them, leave the group, or put a ‘do not disturb’ sign meaning you will not receive messages for the time being. Predictive typing is being introduced called QuickType. QuickType recognizes patterns in your typing, and taking context into account you can finish sentences with just a few letters.
iOS 8 can give a clear overview of physical health by gathering information from different health apps and putting them all in one place. Apple’s new Healthkit app can integrate information gathered from other apps, such as Nike+, and provide the user with a more accurate representation of their overall health. This also sparks the notion of doctors and patients having a better interaction with each other in the future. With information being accessible anytime through the cloud, healthcare can see its benefits.
iOS 8 features Family Sharing, a new way to connect families with information ranging from purchases to photos. Up to six members with their own Apple ID in the same household can share information with each other, making it easier to communicate. The whole idea is ‘sharing’. With Family Sharing, photos, purchases, and calendar events are all accessible with each member.
iOS 8 provides users with a simpler way to access organized content anywhere, anytime using their Apple devices.
