Former Yahoo CEO Bartz Steps Down from Board of Directors

By

It seems Carol Bartz had a change of heart after being fired from her position as CEO of Yahoo, stepping down from the company’s board of directors even after she said she wouldn’t leave the board, according to media reports. A change of heart – or perhaps not enough allies on the board approving that she stay on.

Last week, Bartz was abruptly ousted from the chief executive post – a position she held for less than three years. As TMC’s Rich Tehrani opined in his communications blog, Yahoo shouldn’t have hired Bartz in the first place, given her lack of Web media experience.

“But even worse than the hiring of Bartz was the firing – she was let go on the phone which is understandable as she was traveling and the company didn’t want to deal with leaks. But what is unfathomable is that there is no replacement,” Tehrani wrote.

In an interview with Fortune late last week, Bartz has made it clear she intended to stay on the company's board. “In the interview, she called its members “doofuses” and said they “f***ed me over,” Mashable reported.

Perhaps Bartz put more thought into the fact that Yahoo Chairman Roy Bostock reportedly fired her, reading off a script over the phone.

“During the [Fortune] interview, she recalls how Yahoo Chairman Roy Bostock read from a script when he fired her over the phone,” Mashable said.

However, ultimately it wasn’t Bartz’s call, but rather the board’s decision as to whether she could remain part of the company’s board of directors.

“That’s up to the shareholders. She certainly isn’t likely to find many allies on Yahoo’s board of directors,” reported Mashable.

Now that Bartz is out, CFO Tim Morse is acting CEO and a management team of vice presidents and the executive counsel are helping to run things at Yahoo.

According to multiple reports, Bartz's last day on the board was Friday.
