An Apple (News - Alert) insider has tipped the media that one of the company’s biggest stores, under construction in New York City’s Grand Central Station, will open on Black Friday (News - Alert).
A tipster tells 9to5Mac that the store will be open on Black Friday or even sooner, but the store is still under construction at the iconic railroad station, with temporary walls up so the public cannot view the work.
The report also said that training for Apple Store Grand Central employees began Monday at a hotel in Times Square, which will end Nov. 11, in time for a post-Thanksgiving opening.
According to renderings released by the Wall Street Journal in July, the Apple store in Grand Central Station is so big and open that it will become part of Grand Central.
The new store is anticipated to be Apple’s largest of its more than 300 worldwide locations, meaning it will be bigger than the company’s massive Covent Garden store in London, TMCnet reported.
Once the Grand Central store opens, Apple will have five separate locations in New York City alone, including one on Fifth Avenue and one in the Upper West Side.
In related news, in a strange twist of fate, the much-anticipated biography of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs (News - Alert) ) is hitting shelves just one day after the 10-year anniversary of the launch of the iPod, the first of three Apple mobile devices pushed by Jobs that flipped the tech world on its head, TMCnet’s Beecher Tuttle reported.
“If ever there was a product that catalyzed Apple’s reason for being, it’s this,” Jobs was quoted as saying soon after he formally introduced the iPod.
