'Megafon Siberia implements Linux-based video call-centre'

(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Siberian branch of Russian mobile operator Megafon launched the video call-centre MultiFon. The SIP-based and open source system will allow customers not only to hear but also to see a specialist and subscribe to services in real time. To contact a call-centre specialist through video chat, a subscriber must install MultiFon, connect a computer microphone, headset and webcam (or use the built-in features of a laptop). The subscriber can use any available internet connection. Communication with a call-centre specialist is only possible with a SIP-ID [email protected], dial up of which is possible only within the service MultiFon; when calling from a mobile or fixed line phone a caller will hear the automatic reply that the subscriber is not available. The service is based entirely on open source software: OS Ubuntu Linux and Asterisk, and in the workplace the operator uses the client software Linphone. The service is provided free of charge. Internet access is paid by subscribers according to tariff plans for 3G or home internet access. The official client program MultiFon is available for Windows and smartphones based on Symbian. In addition, subscribers can use third-party software that supports SIP.
