The enlarged user base will benefit PathScale, and in turn promote more community participation in the continued development of PathScale's products," says Fred Chow, PathScale Chief Scientist.

PathScale will continue to provide full paid support for EKOPath and offer additional support options for AMD's Open64 compiler. PathScale aims to make the suite available to anyone as a free download and bring together a community of users, developers and researchers.

"For the past 2 years PathScale has engaged more and more in the open source community and this marks a turning point with a full commitment, our core product the EKOPath 4 Compiler Suite going open source," says C. Bergstrom, PathScale CTO.

In addition to the compiler, this release also includes PathDB, a modern debugger. PathDB has been released under a permissive license, in response to requests from the open source community for a modern debugger that is not encumbered by the GPLv3. It has recently been overhauled to provide better support for multithreaded applications, library based design and will continue to see enhancements around robustness, performance, better language integration for C++/Fortran, scalability for clustered environments, DWARF4 support and compatibility with GDB.
