Ophir Energy deploys Riverbed wide area network optimization solution

Jun 15, 2011 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Riverbed Technology has announced that Ophir Energy, a UK-based international oil and gas exploration company, has deployed Riverbed wide area network optimizationsolution connecting the company's African, European and Australian offices.

In addition, with the Riverbed Steelhead appliances and Steelhead Mobile, Ophir Energy has experienced accelerated application performance, enabling faster access to business-critical data across its global network.

Since deploying Riverbed Steelhead appliances at seven of its locations last year, London, Perth, Mtwara and Dares Salaam (Tanzania), Malabo (Equatorial Guinea) and two offshore drilling vessels, the company has been able to increase the capacity of its IP-WAN and Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite links by up to five times.

The expanded network capacity now allows Ophir Energy to perform data backup operations to a central data center across its global network. This saves the company hundreds of thousands of dollars in storage infrastructure costs at its more remote locations and in associated support and maintenance costs each year "The performance improvements delivered by Riverbed were immediate and impressive," said Bill Johnson, IT manager, Ophir Energy. "Steelhead Mobile has allowed some of our laptop users to reduce their WAN bandwidth consumption by more than 80 percent.

"Riverbed WAN optimization is the right solution to meet our technical and financial needs. We expect to recoup our investment in the Riverbed solution from the bandwidth savings alone." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
