Google is stomping onto Bing territory, as it has launched its own search app to the newly-released Windows Phone 7.
Though Bing is the primary search engine for Windows Phone 7, Google Search is an alternative option that promises to give faster and more relevant search results, according to the search engine giant.
"The Google Search app for Windows Phone 7 provides quick and convenient access to a rich set of search results, allowing you to search the Web, images, local, news, and more," Google wrote in a blog post. "The initial release of the Google Search app includes several features that help you to search faster – suggestions appear automatically as you type, you can choose to repeat a query from your search history, and your current location is used to provide more relevant results."
The free application can be found in the Windows 7 Marketplace, which already houses 1,000 apps since its launch three weeks ago. The Windows Phone 7 devices – including the Samsung Focus and HTC Surround available on AT&T and the HTC HD7 supported on T-Mobile – debuted Monday in stores. All three phones are available for $199 with a two-year contract.
More handsets on the Windows Phone 7 platform will be unveiled soon, including the Dell Venue Pro for T-Mobile and LG Quantum for AT&T. And 2011 will see the HTC 7 Pro on Sprint.
Google is making big moves (as always), as it revealed a new feature allowing Google searchers to quickly see previews of websites before clicking on them. Called “Instant Previews,” the feature will soon be available, and users will be on their way to avoiding any websites that are irrelevant to their search.
