Lenovo, Intel Make PCs Affordable for Schools With Classmate+ PC

By

Technology in the classroom, particularly the use of personal computers, promotes reading, writing and critical thinking amongst students. Lenovo recently collaborated with Intel to bring an affordable device to education with the Lenovo Classmate+ PC.

A purpose-built laptop, the Lenovo Classmate+ is an affordable, kid-friendly computer that specializes in educational software and teaching resources based on the Intel Learning reference design.

The benefits to computer use in the classroom are many, as students gain basic word processing skills, it promotes problem solving and it reinforces teaching instruction through integration in many curricula. The Classmate+ PC will create opportunities for administrators, teachers and students in K-8 to benefit from a technology-enriched 1:1 experience, according to Michael Schmedlen, director of Worldwide Education, Lenovo.

“As the fastest-growing PC company in education, we are committed to creating education solutions that improve schools' efficiency, as well as leading initiatives to evaluate how technology can measurably improve learning outcomes,” said Schmedlen in a press release.

Equipped with an Intel Atom processor, the Classmate+ PC is Ethernet and WiFi-ready with a Windows 7 OS and 250 GB storage capacity.

“We are thrilled to welcome Lenovo to the Intel Learning Series Alliance and to work with them to extend the platforms to benefit more students and teachers around the world,” said Kapil Wadhera, General Manager, Education Markets Platform Group, Intel.

The Organization of Ibero-American States will deploy the first wave of 158,000 Lenovo Classmate+ laptops as part of its Conectar Igualdad 1:1 computing program, which will equip students throughout the country with PC technology.
