Skype Quick to Fix Log-In Problems

By

For those trying to make long-distance calls using their Skype accounts this morning, some weren’t able to login to the network – a seemingly isolated to Skype for Windows users.

“Some of you may have problems signing in to Skype and making calls. We’re investigating and hope to have more details to share soon,” a 7:52 a.m. EST tweet read.

Another update, about an hour later, read: “Thanks for your patience – we’ve identified the problem and will be rolling out a fix soon,” and “technical instructions to fix the current Skype issue affecting a small number of users – easier solution coming soon!”

Skype’s Peter Parkes posted instructions on how affected users on Windows and Mac OS X machines can get Skype working again via a help page.

“A small number of you may have had problems signing in to Skype. This predominantly affects people using Skype for Windows. We have identified the problem and will issue a fix in the next few hours,” blogged Parkes. “In the meantime, you can follow the steps below to fix the problem manually.”

This is not the first time Skype has incurred such problems. Back in December 2010, a much more widespread issue affected customers when their long distance and video chat access was lost for much of the day.

Skype offers VoIP, video chat, instant messaging and screen sharing, which some businesses use for Web conferencing.
