AirSpeed Telecom, an Irish wireless telecom provider, has established a link with the LINX London Internet exchange.
LINX is a mutually-owned exchange where providers in the London area can connect with each other. The exchange has 400 members from 50 countries all over the world.
AIRSPEED joins organizations such as Akami, Limelight, Amazon, Google and the BBC in the ability to exchange data.
AirSpeed has also upgraded its network for the transition from IPv4 to IPv6, and is maintaining both IPv4 and IPv6 addressing. The company has been steadily investing in its network to allow for high capacity network use that businesses require both now and in the future.
LINX Internet is also preparing for the future of IPv6. On March 13, 2009, they hosted a workshop on the latest version of the Internet Protocol that makes Internet Connectivity Possible. The workshop was attended by 100 Internet professionals from all around the world.
“This meeting was a great opportunity to discuss this important issue with key industry players,” said Simon Hicks of BERR, one of the attendees. “We are keen to develop structured timelines for a full scale move to IPv6 and this event has brought into focus the need to act now rather than later. I came away feeling positive that our objectives for this workshop had been met.”
The switch to IPv6 is important as the IPv4 addresses have been exhausted.
"The feedback has shown that there is a strong desire for similar events in future including special IPv6 tutorial sessions, and we will be doing all we can to facilitate these for the community,” said LINX CTO Mike Hughes.
AirSpeed has also licensed spectrum from Magnet Networks to increase WiMAX coverage. The company has spent €2.4 million Euros ($3 million) on network improvements.
