Woobleworks Set to Unveil World's First 3D Pen

By

As technology continues to advance, companies continue to push the envelope to try and be the first to release the latest and greatest innovation. 3D technology seems to be all the rage with companies pushing the newest technologies.

It started with 3D movies/television and progressed to 3D video games. Last year, 3D printers seemed to be the belle of the ball and now Wobbleworks is introducing a 3D pen.

Woobleworks’ latest creation, 3Doodler, is the world’s first and only 3D printing pen.

“Have you ever just wished you could lift your pen off the paper and see your drawing become a real three dimensional object? Well now you can!” the company said in a statement.

3Doodler works by heating up and releasing molten strands of plastic. The extruded strands of plastic are quickly cooled and hardened by a small fan at the tip of the pen. This process of quickly cooling the plastic allows users to lift the pen up and continue to draw in the air, although it’s recommended the pen stay on your base to reduce the risk of your design from toppling over.

“3Doodler is the world’s first and only 3D Printing Pen. Using ABS plastic (the material used by many 3D printers), 3Doodler draws in the air or on surfaces. It’s compact and easy to use, and requires no software or computers. You just plug it into a power socket and can start drawing anything within minutes,” the company added.

After just a few hours of launching its campaign on Kickstarter, Wobbleworks has raised the $30,000 it was hoping for in order to kick off its initial commercial fund. The first set of 3Doodler’s is expected to ship out by the Fall of 2013, with retail starting at just $50 for early backers of the project.
