Sony Launches Individual HMZ 3-D Helmet

By

As we get into the second decade of the 21st century, it is interesting just how completely 3-D technology is making a comeback. Originally catching on in the 1960s and 70s, the tech has come back with a vengeance. It now seems as if every kind of gadget needs to find a way to offer 3-D pictures and videos and the hunt is on for the next big thing.

While the Nintendo 3DS has struggled out of the gate, there are still plenty of other gadgets that offer 3-D technology that are in huge demand.   This demand continues to grow despite the fact that there is some question as to whether the technology is actually meeting the demand quality wise. Sony appears to have found a way to offer high quality 3-D video and audio with the launch of their new personal device that you can wear on your head.

Sony’s new headgear is being marketed as a device that will provide an individual plenty of 3-D movies, sound and pictures while being able to stay solitary. The HMZ, which is short for Head Mounted Display, recently got rave reviews when it was shown off to reporters in Japan. According to at least one report, the picture is so clear using what looks like a futuristic visor with attached headphones that a tiny dancer appears to be strutting their stuff right in front of your eyes.

There are a couple of drawbacks with a device that carries an $800 price tag. The first and biggest drawback is that most people aren’t going to want to be completely isolated from others in their own home. The second is that while you would assume a device like this would be perfect for a long train ride, it does not have its own internal video player. The HMZ will connect to almost any Blu-Ray video player and game system, but you need to be sitting at home in front of the player to watch. Apparently there is also a warning that the device is not recommended for children 15 or younger. Recent reports show that overly stimulating images are not good for still developing young brains.
