Google Employee Leaves for Shopping Search Engine Milo

By

Google recently gave each of its employees a 10 percent raise – to prevent defections to other technology companies, but one of its employees has left the company for the tech start-up Milo.

Melissa Sedano, who was in charge of the design of Google Adwords, Analytics and Voice, is now at Milo – where she is “director of user experience,” according to Business Insider. Milo is a shopping search engine that searches the shelves of local stores to find the best price and availability for products consumers want to have.

Many of Google’s other defectors are winding up at larger companies, such as Facebook. But Sedano is not alone. Another ex-Google employee now at Milo is Ted Dziuba, who is the company’s lead engineer and co-founder. He started his engineering career at Google, where he managed the company's internal search engines.

After Google, Dziuba co-founded an online news aggregation start-up called Pressflip, where he led engineers’ efforts to parse news feeds, Milo says.

Jack Abraham is Milo’s chief executive officer and founder, while John Evans is the chief technology officer and founder.

In other company news, one of Milo’s recent announcements was how Consumer Reports Mobile Shopper, with local shopping information powered by Milo, is now available from Apple for the introductory price of $9.99, according to a Milo blog post. The price will rise to $14.99 in January, Milo says. The app features the magazine’s ratings and reviews on more than 3,000 products. Users can compare prices, and, using Milo, can check to see whether the desired item is available in their region, and see how prices compare at local stores, Milo said. The app also lets shoppers scan an item’s barcode and access Consumer Reports content about the product, Milo adds.
