Samsung Unveils New Hard Disk Drives

By

Why should laptops and smartphones have all the fun? Samsung has just unveiled three new lines of external hard disk drives, including two portable models and a desktop drive. Each and every one relies on the new USB 3.0 port standard, which promises data transfer rates of up to 5Gb/s.

The portable drives come with up to 1TB of capacity, boast a wave-like matte finish to conceal dirty fingerprints, curved sides for a comfortable grip, and will be available in four colors: brown black, noble beige, clay orange, and mist gray.

Enhancements to Samsung’s portable line of hard drives include improved backup and security software. These drives come with a high-gloss case with a multi-layered wave pattern in three colors: onyx black, sapphire blue, and coral pink. For security purposes, the premium drives can be encrypted and password-secured. A docking station is also available for both lines of portable external drives.

“These new external drives offer outstanding performance and style. With their wide range of capacities, features and price points they offer a variety of attractive choices for today’s storage-hungry consumers looking for mobile and backup solutions,” asserted Reid Sullivan, senior vice president of mobile entertainment marketing, Samsung Electronics America.

In the meantime, this week, Samsung Electronics marked another milestone: the mobile phone provider has sold 10 million of its Android-powered Galaxy S Smartphones – a feat accomplished less than seven months after the device was launched, in June 2010. JK Shin, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, said in a statement, “The Galaxy S is the result of our 22-year heritage in the mobile industry. It is the realization of our concept of ‘the Smart Life’; we wanted to makes users’ lives more convenient, more exciting, and more integrated. Today’s milestone shows that we have succeeded: 10 million Galaxy S users around the world are living the Smart Life.”
