Microsoft’s recently released Internet Explorer 9 is shaping up to be the most readily embraced Web browser in the company’s history. That’s because Internet Explorer 9 has now been downloaded 2.35 million times in the first 24 hours since its Monday night release. In other words, 27 downloads are taking place every second, or over 240 downloads every nine seconds.
“We want to thank everyone around the world for downloading IE9 and the enthusiastic reception. 2.3 million downloads in 24 hours is over double the 1 million downloads we saw of the IE9 Beta and four times that of the IE9 RC over the same time period,” reads The Windows Blog.
As reported earlier this week by TechZone360.com, Windows Internet Explorer 9 looks nothing like its previous versions. Borrowing loosely from Chrome in terms of the look and feel of its interface, the controls are compiled into a neat single-strip toolbar of icons and tabs.
Relying on HTML 5, the latest in Web language, IE 9 is designed to run applications within the browser more quickly while adding more privacy options than Google offers. IE 9 is Microsoft’s answer to its last browser which was touted as sluggish and more difficult to use due to its inability to operate fast, particularly where apps are concerned.
“The vast, overwhelming majority of new apps that are developed today are developed to run in browsers – they are not native Windows applications,” said David Smith, analyst at Gartner, as reported by Bloomberg. “Any vendor has to have a very competitive offering there.”
