Amazon App Store Inventory Tripled in 12 Months

By

Now that the Fire Phone is officially announced, Amazon is making sure people know that there will be plenty of applications to download once their long-awaited flagship Smartphone launches. The company announced earlier this week that its app store inventory has recently tripled and that there are now more than 240,000 applications available for download. While this number is well behind Apple and Google as far as the number of applications in their app stores, it’s a strong showing that will likely only grow in the very near future.

The fact that the number tripled over just 12 months ago bodes well for the online giant. One of the things that has made the retail giant so successful over the years is its ability to adapt to a changing market. The firm has made some interesting moves in that regard just in the last year and getting enough apps for the Fire Phone will likely be a top priority for Jeff Bezos and company moving forward.

It wasn’t that long ago that Amazon finally turned its attention to a burgeoning technology in a way that few other retailers are able to do. The company announced that it was starting up a virtual storefront for wearable tech, recognizing that tech sector was only getting more popular in 2014.

The company has also tried its hand at selling through social media, thanks to the AmazonBasket. So far, that particular endeavor hasn’t been a very rewarding one, but it would be wrong to count that move as a miss just yet. The online giant tends to find ways to lure people into products and services they once poo-pooed as not valuable.

When it comes to its personal app store, it has some serious catching up to do, if it wants to really compete in terms of numbers with the other bigwigs in the Smartphone market. Even Microsoft is outpacing Amazon with more than 400,000 applications in its app store.
