KT's Spider Phone Can Operate Tablets, Game Consoles or Laptops

By

KT has introduced the Spider Phone, a smartphone that can be used to operate other devices.

The Spider Phone can be connected to laptops, tablet computers or game consoles, and would act as a “host device,” explains AsiaDroid. The Spider Phone will let them operate thanks to the connection.

“These accessories will not have any processor, OS or internal memory of their own,” AsiaDroid said.

“Spider Phone is an innovative device that can impress the global smartphone market, and I’m sure it will draw a lot of attention at IFA,” Kyeong-Soo Lee, executive vice president of the Device Strategy Department – who supervised the development of Spider Phone – said in a press release carried by AsiaDroid.

The IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) 2011 Consumer Electronics Fair is currently taking place in Berlin, Germany, until Sept. 7.

“I hope we will get a lot of favorable responses at the event,” Lee adds.

Spider Phone will “solve many issues,” KT says in the press release, for instance, the “high costs of buying multiple IT devices such as a mobile phone, a laptop and a tablet.”

The Spider Phone will also reduce “stresses of complicated usage of IT devices such as difficulties in managing data.”

Spider Phone will be launched in November. It is targeted to business users, reports AsiaDroid. It has an Android 2.3, 4.5-inch display, 1.5GHz Dual-Core processor, 1710mAh battery and 8MP camera.

At the IFA, KT is also showing the ucloud storage service. KT launched ucloud for individual users in 2010, and later ucloud servers, virtual desktop interface, content delivery network and storage.

Spider Phone offers a “mobile office environment” with the ucloud service, the company said.

KT’s cloud service features an IT infrastructure that can be set up over the Internet in five minutes, rather than a week’s time if an IDC hosting service were used. Ucloud offers speed and competitive performance, the company said.

In other recent company news, KT recently reached an agreement with NTT Docomo to share content for smartphones powered by Android 2.1 or later versions, according to TechZone360.
