Android OS Ad Impressions Increase on Mobile Ad Network in August

By

The Android OS continues to be popular on the mobile ad network, according to new data.

In August, Android OS ad impressions increased some 48 percent over the month of July, according to Millennial Media's mobile ad network.

Android impressions include both phones and tablets, according to TechCrunch.

It was also reported that Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 got only 1 percent share from Millennial Media, but its ad impressions increased 48 percent from July into August, CNET said.

Android had 54 percent of the ad network share during August. Apple's iOS had 28 percent share in the month.

Also, Research In Motion increased 10 percent from July into August, while Nokia's Symbian OS was flat, according to the data.

Apple was the leading mobile device manufacturer in August, with 23 percent of all impressions when it comes to hardware, CNET reports. The iPhone was the leading mobile phone, CNET adds. It had a 13 percent share. HTC earned second place in August from fourth place in July with more than 16 percent of all impressions, CNET said.

In total, Android OS devices accounted for 15 of the top 20 mobile phones, CNET adds.

They had a 32 percent share among all of the 20 phones reported on during August.

In other news about Windows Phone 7, TechZone360 reported that Microsoft has apparently forced out Joe Marini after he made comments about Nokia’s new Windows Phone 7. He gave a personal opinion and rated it, according to Gottabemobile. Microsoft said Marini left because he released “confidential information,” Gottabemobile said.

It was announced earlier this year that Nokia was going to switch from a Symbian OS to a Windows Phone 7, TechZone360 said. Marini tweeted that the Nokia phone is the “slickest looking” and has a “solid feel, good camera, responsive UI.” Marini gave the phone an “overall” rating of an 8.
